Thousands of children – most of them homeless and very often without a parent or guardian live on a smoldering rubbish tip which is known locally as the “Smokey Mountain’. They live off eating waste food and try to keep warm in the evenings by lighting fires. Most of them have little or no belongings. Most do not receive any education what so ever. None of them have any form of proper shelter. The concept of ‘home life’ and a ‘family’ is about as far away from them as we are from the Philippines. Some of the older children try to make a few pence by setting fire to waste and then trying to recover bits of metal to sell as scrap. This is a potentially very dangerous activity – not just from the fire – think about all the toxins that will be being released. These poor children have not the first idea as to what a chemical toxin is.

Just looking at the pictures let you know that no matter what poverty we have there is nothing at all to match the suffering of these desperately needy children. It is our aim to raise enough funds so that we can supply day shelters for these children. Enough funds so that we can provide them with a decent healthy meal at least once a day as well as supplying food supplements. We are also recruiting volunteer teachers to help these children to be able to speak read and write in English – there is no chance at all in the Philippines of any young person gaining employment or training if they have not got the basic skills of the English language – with basic skills in English there is a chance that these children will eventually be able to break out of the cycle of endless poverty and strife. We know that there are many other worthy and hard working charities that you already support please find it in your heart to help us to help some of the most vulnerable children on earth. Whatever you send us will be gratefully received and dutifully applied.

Without your generosity these children will go living in abject squalor with no hope for the future. With your help we can try to put a smile back in their hearts and give them something to really live for.
